Erin is grateful to teach students who not only work hard academically but also contribute so positively to the learning community around them.My students were assigned a Battle Journal project in which they wrote a fictional journal entry based on a real battle from the Revolutionary War. While the characters and personal narratives were imagined, the historical details had to remain accurate. When I began reading the submissions from two siblings,, I was immediately struck by the level of creativity, effort, and joy they brought to the task.

Both students crafted narratives that were thoughtful, historically sound, and genuinely entertaining. The boy added a surprising and clever twist by incorporating character names from The Office. When the reference finally clicked, it caught me completely off guard and made me laugh out loud, an unexpected and welcome moment during grading.

Equally meaningful is the way the gal shows up in class each day. Beyond her strong academic skills, she consistently supports her classmates with patience and kindness. She naturally steps in to help others understand directions or concepts, creating a positive and collaborative classroom environment.

Moments like these, when students combine creativity, curiosity, and compassion, are what make teaching such a rewarding profession
