CALIFORNIA AIR FORCE ASSOCIATION (CAFA) EDUCATION FOUNDATION FOR AEROSPACE FOUNDATION (EFA) TEACHER OF THE YEAR (TOY)
The CAFA Education Foundation for Aerospace (EFA) is responsible for CAFA’s Teacher of the Year program (K-12) which recognizes outstanding teachers who have demonstrated accomplishments instructing science, technology, engineering, mathematics and/or aerospace education in California. As a result of the teacher’s instruction, students should be motivated to study and demonstrate interest in theses fields. Candidates will compete at the chapter level, then at the area level and finally at the state (CAFA) level.
Ms. Corrine L. Brown was selected as the Chapter TOY for Air Force Association San Diego Chapter 118. She was recognized and presented a check by Chapter President Dick Jeffreys on May 25, 2010. She was presented the California Air Force Association (CAFA) Teacher of the Year (TOY) award during the state convention at Beal AFB, California.
AFA Chapter 118 Vice President Lieutenant Colonel (USAF-Retired) Eugene Alfaro was honored to present Ms. Brown her Chapter Certificate at the annual Awards Assembly this year.
Our Very Own Jewel
By: Rebecca Steinbrecher (12th grade student)
At the end of the 2009 / 2010 school year, our very own jewel, Miss Brown, was awarded with the CAFA Teacher of the Year Award. In regards to Miss Brown’s reputation we were not at all surprised by this award, the students and staff are pleased for this well deserved recognition.
"I have had Miss Brown as my Pre-Calculus teacher, but her realm of influence goes far beyond the boundaries of her classroom. Miss Brown continually sacrifices her time to tutor her students after school and even volunteers to score basketball and volleyball games regularly during the school year, which means staying out as late as 9:00pm because our games are often played at a distance. She genuinely cares about her students' academic and personal lives. Our classes are always fun but productive. We joke around about Miss Brown’s insane knowledge and her ability to do crazy math problems without a calculator with ease. She jokes around with us and is also there for us in the hard times. Miss Brown creates a safe place in her classroom. I have seen numerous students in her classroom at lunch pouring their hearts out to Miss Brown, a wise spot for solace."
We are so thankful to have such a prize at our school. What a gem Miss Brown is. She lays down her life for her students, from the very practical (such as sacrificing her time), to her interest in our spiritual lives (as she shares what issue God has struck her heart to share with us). We have a jewel, an amazing teacher, a caring mentor and a loving friend. Miss Brown we love you!
