Waheed Mitchell

Waheed was born and raised in San Diego, California. Childhood was filled with both watching and participating in many sporting events. He was a three-sport athlete as a child, playing football, basketball, and baseball. Yet, baseball was his favorite sport. He is the oldest of four children, having two brothers and a sister.

As a child Waheed grew up knowing the Lord. His parents instilled that Jesus Christ was Lord and Savior, and through Him any and everything was possible. However, as he began to grow and as he left his parents’ guidance, he began trying to do things on his own. Waheed stopped relying on the Lord, and then ran into trials that he could not seem to overcome. Issues in school, athletics, and personal relationships were not coming together for him as he thought they would. In 1995, he began to seek the Lord on his own. He needed to return to the truths his parents had taught him when he was young. Gratefully, his search led him back to the Lord, and he became a man of God!

Once he started to seek Him and lay everything at His feet, his life turned around. He can honestly say he has been truly blessed ever since. Waheed graduated from college with a BA in Liberal Studies. His successful college career included basketball, where he was the player of the year in 1999; he was also chosen for 1st Team All-Conference through all four years. He then went on to become a high school basketball coach, earning many conference titles: San Diego Section titles, Southern California Section title, and California State title. His team was also ranked 13th in the state in 2006, and he was honored to be named the 2007 San Diego Union Tribune Coach of the Year. On the personal side, he has a beautiful wife, Brandy, and three wonderful daughters; Brittany, 13; Breanna, 4; and Bailee, 1. Waheed now lives giving all glory to God!
