Science Department Head
Bachelor's of Science with a major in Biology and minor in Education Studies from the University of California, San Diego
Mike was born and raised in San Diego and went to the one and only Mira Mesa High School. He was fortunate to attend UCSD and study Human Biology. He previously worked in an immunology lab at The Scripps Research Institute, as well as in an environmental toxicity lab at Nautilus Environmental. He is now in his fifth year teaching at The Rock Academy and teaches Biology, Chemistry, Conceptual Physics and Anatomy/Physiology.

The Lord saved Mike during his sophomore year of high school. He grew up going to church on occasion and had a heart for the Lord, but the church had failed to answer some of his toughest questions and his heart was in unrest. While in his first year of high school, the Lord brought some upper classmen into Mike's life. They were sports stars and in love with the Lord. They shared God's Word with him and encouraged him to go to Bible study. God worked it out so that the High School Bible study at Calvary Chapel Mira Mesa met across the street from his house! Mike saw that God was real and alive in the lives of real people, and he soon fell in love with the Lord.

Since that time, Mike has been privileged to be part of God's work at Calvary, in the very Youth Ministry where he was saved. Currently, Mike uses his gifts to take The Rock Academy's Science program to the next level through inquiry-based lessons, cummulative projects, hands on lab practicals, networking with community members, and organizing our annual Rock Academy Science Consortium.

Mike’s greatest joy in life is being in the place that God has called him to be. Mike says, “There is nothing greater than knowing the reason for which you were made and the One who you were made for."

Mike also enjoys spending time with his family and friends, football, surfing, gardening, investing and living presently.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
