Matthew grew up in a very religious home; and though he did what he thought were all the right things, he found that he was empty inside and needed something else. After nineteen years of going to the same church, he ventured out to a church where the Bible was being preached. He heard the message of God’s love and forgiveness in Jesus and later that night in his bedroom, he prayed and asked Jesus to forgive him of his sins. He asked God to make him into the kind of person that He wanted him to be. Since then, Matthew has read his Bible and grown spiritually. He has worked in the ministry consistently since 1994.
With a highly respected grandfather who made his lifelong profession teaching in a one-room schoolhouse, Matthew Chavez has education in his blood. He has many years of experience in education, both as a teacher and an administrator. While he has been in education since 1994, he has been at the Rock Academy since 2003 where he has taught math, English, science, history, geography, health, yearbook, American Government, Economics, and his favorite, Bible.
Matthew has coached boys basketball at the junior high and varsity levels for many years. He has also coached junior high girls volleyball and girls varsity basketball.
Matthew is married to a beautiful, wonderful woman named Scheri. Scheri inspires Matthew’s passion for life. She loves to travel and is very compassionate with others. They have two boys; Ja’el, born in 2002, and Jabez, born in 2003. He is working towards his doctorate in Educational Administration. He has finished his coursework and passed the comprehensive exams and is in his research phase of his dissertation to obtain his Doctorate of Education.
Mr. Chavez, as he is known to his students, desires to encourage his students to be more than they think they can be. He has high academic standards and pushes his pupils to learn all they can for the glory of God.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
