Katie Pappianou
3rd Grade Teacher
B.A. in History from University of Southern California; California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and M.A. in Education from Pepperdine
Katie Pappianou grew up in Oak Park, California. She had never heard about having a personal relationship with God until seventh grade when her family started to attend a new church. As soon as Katie heard about having a personal relationship with God, she wanted one. She prayed and asked Jesus to become the Lord of her life. With the support of her family and close friends at church, she continued to grow in her faith and recognize the importance of having a daily relationship with Him. A big step in her faith came after high school while attending the Summit Ministries Worldview conference. Katie realized that she had given some areas of her life over to Him, but had been trying to control other areas herself. She has learned that she must daily surrender to Him in order to grow closer to God and follow the plans He has for her life.
Katie decided to attend the University of Southern California because she wanted to attend a college with a lot of school spirit. She was not disappointed. Katie was blessed with a strong Christian community in her sorority bible study and Campus Crusade. In addition to becoming a huge college football fan, she also earned a B.A. in History and a minor in Business. Katie even convinced her two younger brothers to become Trojans as well. Fight On!
Although she had planned to work in admissions or recruiting, God helped her see that she could better use the talents He had given her in the field of elementary education. She attended Pepperdine University to pursue her teaching credential and M.A. in Education. She completed her student teaching in the First and Third grades.
After she finished graduate school, Katie married her wonderful husband, Greg. She moved with him to Charleston, South Carolina for his training as a submarine officer where she taught second grade at Porter-Gaud School. They were thrilled to be stationed in San Diego in November 2009 with the USS Albuquerque. This will be her second year teaching at the Rock!
He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him, though he is not far from each one of us.
