Jolina Shue
4th Grade Teacher
M.A. in Education: Digital Teaching & Learning, Azusa Pacific University, B.A. in Human Development, Azusa Pacific University; Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Supplementary Subject Matter Authorizations in Introductory English & Computer Concepts
Jolina has lived in San Diego for the past eight years with her husband Chris, a Senior Chief in the Navy and their three children. Jolina grew up going to church sporadically, knowing about God but not having a personal relationship with Jesus. When her first child was a toddler, Jolina felt a responsibility to teach him about God and started going to a neighborhood church. Over the next year God began working on her heart and she was saved in 2003. As Jolina began a personal relationship with Jesus, He put the desire in her heart to be a Christian teacher.
She discovered her love for teaching while raising her son. As a mother, Jolina understood that she was his first teacher and took on that responsibility with passion and excitement. She realized that it was her job to not only grow his body, but to grow his mind also. When Alex was three years-old, Jolina began the path of becoming an educator. Knowing that God was calling her to one day serve in a Christian school, she followed His call for her life by attending Azusa Pacific University. Azusa prepared Jolina to be a servant-leader that can not only provide her students with an engaging curriculum, but prepare them to be faithful stewards for Christ.
While attending Azusa, Jolina worked for San Diego Unified Schools student teaching both 2nd & 5th Grade and substitute teaching. This past school year Jolina taught several months in 4th grade and Kindergarten for Cajon Valley Schools. While in her Master’s program, Jolina was told by a professor that the Rock Academy had an exceptional reputation for integrating a biblical worldview with a rigorous curriculum. Jolina's heart was to work at a Christian school (and to bring her children to one), so she immediately began praying to God to open the door at the Rock if it was His will. God has graciously brought Jolina to the Rock and she feels blessed to be teaching the children with whom He has entrusted her. Jolina views teaching as a ministry and seeks to help her students develop their full potential and discover their uniqueness.
When you pass through the waters I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
