Jesse Nunez
Jr. and Sr. High Teacher
BS in Adolescent Education and History; New York State Teachers Certification
Jesse was born and raised right here in San Diego where he grew up in a Christian home with God fearing parents. His family made sure they were at church every week. However, though Jesse knew and understood what he was being taught, he did not personally own who he was in Christ.
While Jesse was growing up he played sports constantly, and he eventually ended up at Horizon High School his sophomore year, where he played both football and baseball. The funny thing is that Dr. Andujo was actually his vice-principal. Even though Jesse was going to school and playing sports in a godly environment, he did not truly understand his faith until he was 21. At that time, he went back to church and felt a calling to work with youth, so he began leading a small group for Jr. Highers. This ministry led him to understand God’s call for him to work with youth and make a difference.
At the age of 24, Jesse decided to go back to school in order to become a teacher. After receiving a scholarship for baseball, he traveled across the country to NYACK College in New York, and while there he played baseball and dedicated himself to his studies. After spending 4 years away, Jesse returned home to San Diego with a degree and teaching credential in history. He ended up working for a company that makes sports jerseys for schools throughout San Diego, and the Rock Academy was one of his clients. After developing a relationship with the school, he felt God’s calling to become a part of the Rock Academy team. God’s planning was perfect because, as the school grew, they needed to add to their teaching team.
Jesse is excited to teach history, science, and Bible, and to see what God is going to do in the lives of our students. In addition to teaching, he will be helping to coach the football team and will be the head coach of the baseball team while continuing to work on his Masters at San Diego State University. In his spare time, he supports his hometown teams, the Chargers and Padres. He also spends time at Starbucks with his friends and participates in anything outdoors.
