Jacquelyn Flaming was born and raised in San Diego, California. After attending small Catholic schools, Jacquelyn decided to attend San Diego State University to expand her knowledge of English, History, and Education. Studying abroad, partaking in many community service events, and building meaningful relationships charted her college years. However, after visiting countries around the world, Jacquelyn decided that there was no place like home and quickly enrolled in Point Loma Nazarene’s Graduate Educational program.
Jacquelyn grew up attending small Catholic schools, but spent many Sunday mornings attending Christian services with her mother. Her parents fostered her religious and spiritual growth, but Jacquelyn needed to experience the Lord on her own. While traveling through Ireland on her own, Jacquelyn discovered a small, dilapidated church covered in decades of Ivy growth. She felt the Lord calling her to the church, and she willing walked towards it. Jacquelyn couldn’t resist touching the lush Ivy leaves and, as she gently brushed her hands along the walls, she discovered a small cross pendant on a necklace buried amid branches. At this point, Jacquelyn felt the Lord calling her to refocus her goals and fulfill her childhood dreams of becoming a teacher. Though the educational process would be rigorous, Jacquelyn knew she must begin right away.
Acceptance into her Graduate program reaffirmed God’s plan for her. Jacquelyn was warmly welcomed into her new family at Point Loma Nazarene University. Though Jacquelyn had spent years working with young children, she felt God calling her towards high school students. When she began looking for work, God’s support and guidance led her to receive a position as a paraprofessional at the Rock Academy.
Though she is just beginning her educational journey, Jacquelyn is excited to share her knowledge and passion for education with students in need of additional academic assistance. God’s love continues to be the driving force encouraging Jacquelyn to meet her personal academic goals while supporting students moving through their academic careers.
I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
