Gayl Mills

Gayl was born and raised in San Diego. She and her 2 sisters and brother were raised by her single mother, with plenty of help from her grandmother. These strong, godly women were living examples of how to live a faithful and godly life even through difficult times. She has always had a love for working with children and began assisting in the nursery at her church at age 1. She has been involved with children and youth ministries ever since. Her love of working with children led her and a friend to begin an after school childcare center servicing schools in the Bay Park area. Many students in their child care center struggled academically so Gayl and her friend felt God’s calling to begin a home-school tutoring program where they were able to “use the world as their classroom”. This hands-on approach towards learning helped many struggling students to achieve greater academic achievement. During this 20-year adventure, Gayl has taught various subjects to grades 1-7.

After teaching for so many years in a small private setting, Gayl pursued her credential from San Diego Christian College. For her first student teaching assignment, she was placed with a 6th grade class. Her 2nd assignment was in a K/1 combination class. She has been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of ages. Ever since hearing from a friend about teaching opportunities at the Rock, she has been amazed at how God opened the doors for her and feels confident that this is exactly the place she should be. She looks forward to getting to know her students and their families and inspiring them to learn and grow both academically and spiritually.
