Welcome to the Rock Academy Junior High School!
Here at the Rock Academy we take pride in offering an education for young adults that is Spiritually grounded as well as rigorous and academically challenging. We have several different opportunities to offer our students because we believe the Creator of the Universe has specifically designed each and every one of us to do great things for His Kingdom.
Beginning in the 7th grade, students attend classes using a modified block schedule. This schedule was developed to allow teaching and learning to take place in larger blocks of time. Four days a week, students attend 90 minute classes, and on Wednesdays, students attend all classes for a shorter period of time and participate in a 47 minute chapel.
One of the ways a student can earn a diploma from the Academy is to complete the course requirements for a College Preparatory diploma. These students will complete all of the UC/CSU a-g course requirements along with the NCAA requirements. The Academy also requires Bible credit for each semester of attendance along with CPR/First Aid certification, the completion of a Senior Portfolio, and community service hours.
An exciting new offering for Academy students beginning Fall of 2014 is the DAVID Project (Dynamic And Valuable Individual Design). The Rock Academy recognizes that God creates each individual with different gifts and talents. We acknowledge that not all students are interested in continuing with a post-secondary education at a four year university immediately upon graduation from high school, therefore, we offer a program that has been specifically designed with these students in mind. Students who are part of the DAVID Project complete the California State requirements for a diploma along with two years of apprenticeship experience and the completion of the ACT Work Train curriculum establishing work ready skills. We believe this program sets our students apart from other high school graduates entering the workplace.
Another program offered at the Rock Academy has been developed for students who learn differently or who have special learning needs. The Pillars program is directed by a highly trained Special Education staff that creates an individual learning plan for each student enrolled. These students are able to receive accommodations and at times modifications according to district issued IEP’s and 504 Plans. Being one of the few private Christian schools in San Diego to offer this type of program, with a Spiritually grounded foundation, makes us distinctive in the community.
